Resolving Tenure Security
A comprehensive 126 page Report 'Towards Greater Tenure Security for Commercial Recreation Operators' has been presented to senior representatives of relevant government ministries who are involved in our request for resolution of Tenure Taking, Compensation and Parity Issues.
Please note the following when reading the letter and the report.
- WTA and Commercial recreation (CR) representatives worked with SFU researchers to prepare the report and make the presentation to the government committee over a 7 month period. The report addresses all identified concerns about tenure security.
- The covering letter addresses specific issues of tenure taking, compensation, and parity that cannot be dealt with by the Joint Steering Committee of government and CR operators.
- The meeting with a special committee of senior government officials from all relevant ministries on Nov 23, 2005 concluded with a commitment from the ministry of Tourism, Sports, and the Arts (MTSA) to get a working group of CR operators representative of the industry to a meeting with a committee of Government (from all the relevant ministries) in order devise workable solutions to these concerns ASAP.
The 'Towards Greater Tenure Security for Commercial Recreation Operators' report is a hall mark document and a major step forward towards resolving the issues regarding operator security which in turn affect investor security and the overall health of the industry.
The report summarizes responses from CR operators to a questionnaire (which many of you participated in) and key interviews with operators and outside organizations like insurers, lawyers and financial organizations. It also compares tenures document language in other jurisdictions within BC and outside the province. I would encourage you to read it promptly and give me your feedback.
